Maintenance and Safe Cleaning
Maintenance can prevent airflow, drainage and overheating problems, but access points and safe procedures vary by model.
Before cleaning
- Read the maintenance section of the exact manual.
- Disconnect power only when the manual directs it and keep plugs and controls dry.
- Allow hot surfaces and retained water to cool before touching accessible components.
- Use gloves when filters or sumps may contain glass, sharp debris or metal edges.
Safe external tasks
- Remove lint, dust and debris from user-accessible filters and vents.
- Wipe seals and visible surfaces with products approved by the manufacturer.
- Check accessible hoses and cords for kinks, crushing, discoloration or leakage without disconnecting them.
- Restore every cover, filter and cap to its documented position before testing.
When maintenance becomes service
- Stop when a panel is secured with service screws or exposes wiring.
- Do not probe live voltage, refrigerant pressure, gas pressure or combustion systems.
- Arrange service for repeated breaker trips, burning odor, smoke, arcing, gas odor, water near live wiring or a recurring leak alarm.
- Treat a reset as a test, not a repair, when the same code returns.
